Talisman

I’ve been painting this piece on and off for six years. I started with the intention that there is only one voice worth listening to, and that was the voice of my own heart. I was looking at clearing the energy and what was blocking me. Making marks on canvas allows me to work better with life blocks outside of self.

As I use the canvas as a portal for making these changes, I discovered three things important to my future self. Collaboration, confidence and sense of self. Using a glazing process, I integrated all this, bringing together everything and becoming one. Another glaze in different areas to embody and hold all these declarations. During this process l realised that I bring beauty into everything I do and I see beauty in everything. As I paint my self, I give my power to myself as an artist, strengthening my masculine with colour so I can initiate action, strength, trust, opening the connection, allowing to hear and strengthen the feminine. She’s my creativity, my wisdom, my open-heart and my intuition. Then another glaze to bring the two together, seen as one.

Six years after I started this piece I felt drawn to complete. I wanted to bring a bit more darkness into it to, embrace the shadow side that I learnt so much from. I added all these doodles I had collected over the years on bits of paper, reflecting my ideas and visions. My voice is speaking my knowing and with my grounded state, I can hear the wisdom and sense the birthing of new creations.
